Hymn Reporting Instructions

Since we have started streaming our church activities, several issues have come to light with respect to proper licensing for the use of some of the hymns in our hymnals.

In some cases, we did not have proper licensing for use in worship services and other programs. Onward Media has obtained the proper licenses, but we are required by law to report the use of any of the hymns listed in the reporting form in any of the activities stated:

1)      Recording of the hymn using any method (tape, CD, phone, computer, etc.)

2)      Streaming of a hymn on any streaming service

3)      Photocopying a hymn for use in a program or singing or any other activity

4)      Displaying word and/or music on a screen or TV for group singing

5)      Translating to any other language

Note: The Hymns that are covered under the license reporting will be in the form.

What do you need to do? Each and every time you use any of the hymns listed, from April 2022 through September 2022, in any way shown above, you have to fill out a report form and include all the usages.

Examples:

• You pick a hymn not on the list below. You DO NOT have to fill in the report form.
• A group sings a listed hymn from a hymnal (no recording, no display, no streaming). You DO NOT need to fill in the report form.
• You photocopy a listed hymn to use for choir or Sunday School Program. You need to fill in the report form.
• You display a listed hymn on the screen at the Fellowship Hall for a singing. You need to fill in the report form.
• You display a listed hymn on the screen in the basement for group singing. You need to fill in the report form.
• We sing a listed hymn in church during a normal worship service. The sound team will fill in the report form.
• You photocopy a hymn plus display it on a screen plus you record the singing on a cassette tape.
• You need to fill in a report form and check all three usages (also stop using cassette tapes).
• A small group is singing a listed hymn from a hymnal and decided to record it on a phone. You need to fill in a report form.
• You decide to sing a listed hymn in Telugu or Spanish, so you translate it. You need to fill in a report form.

You need to report all usages. 

Remember, this activity is required by law so please be diligent in your reporting.
